How do social media and TV become a force multiplier for terrorists? What’s corporate governance got to do with stopping bomb attacks? How does the concentration of business infrastructure in a few cities make India vulnerable? These are some of the questions Raghu Raman addresses in his collection of essays titled Everyman’s War: Strategy, Security and Terrorism in India (Random House India), which looks at the threats India faces from outside and within. Raman draws on his background as an army officer and combat tactics instructor to lend the book a sense of objectivity. The narrative is a little slow at times but nonetheless keeps readers well informed. At the end of the 240 pages, they will walk away with not just an idea of how relevant security is to the country’s economic progress but also why we need more of it.
